Fisher Print was founded in 1897 by Mr E.H. Fisher and his wife and was located on the corner of Weld Street and Kimbolton Road, Feilding. In 1911 the company moved into new premises in MacArthur Street where it continued to trade for the next 80 years. During this time the primary production method was by letterpress and hot metal. In 1973 the owner, Frank Dew, introduced new 'offset' technology into Fisher Print and this has been the mainstay of printing to this day.
Current owner, Peter Griffin, has been at the helm for the last 15 years and has a real passion and drive to create a print company capable of providing a complete print solution for its clients.
The company has seen dramatic growth over the last decade, building on its traditional general print market to be a dominant provider within the corporate and direct marketing sectors. There have also been a number of acquisitions during this period that have opened up new markets to Fisher Print.
In 2002, Peter bought his second print company, Swift Print, Palmerston North. Swift Print was established in 1964 and was a successful and very significant contributor to the printing industry for nearly 40 years. This acquisition increased Fisher Print's profile in the Manawatu and with Swift Print's additional resources allowed the company to strategically position itself to offer a total print solution to clients.
May 2005 saw the purchase of Carrington Print, Feilding and Impress Print, Levin. Both companies have been strong performers in the 'General Print' market and were seen to be adding significantly to the strength of the Fisher Print name while also opening up new markets in their respective areas. Hawkes Bay Company, Cliff Press Printers is the most recent acquisition. Cliff Press has been providing quality printing to their clients since 1937.
Due to the rapid growth via acquisitions and focused sales strategies it has been necessary to look at maximising production to ensure we continue to meet our customers requirements. It was decided in March 2005 to build a new print facility in Feilding and to consolidate all five companies into this new facility. Production started in July 2005 with an anticipated completion date of January 2006.
With recent investment on equipment, including upgrading all design and prepress computers, changing from 'film-to-plate' to a 'computer-to-plate' based system, a new Ryobi A3 four colour press and the installation of the latest computerised book and magazine finishing machine, the company is well situated to continue being the premiere print company in the Manawatu.
